Project Intern

As a Project Intern at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, I worked on a deep learning-based urban classification project using Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Optical imagery. My primary responsibilities included collecting satellite data from open-source repositories like the Copernicus Open Access Hub, preprocessing the high-dimensional datasets, and performing normalization and transformation techniques to prepare them for model training. I built and evaluated multiple deep learning models, primarily Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), using the Keras API in TensorFlow. I experimented with model architectures, applied hyperparameter tuning, and selected the best-performing model based on evaluation metrics such as accuracy, precision, and recall. The model achieved over 90% classification accuracy in distinguishing urban areas. Additionally, I collaborated with researchers to improve model generalizability across different geospatial regions. This experience strengthened my skills in machine learning, satellite imagery analysis, and end-to-end model development for real-world applications in urban planning and remote sensing.
